One of the things I like about knitting is that you can pick up your needles and just go. The other night I decided I wanted to make a headband with a bow. Easy enough. I went into my bin of yarn and picked out two colours that I liked and got started.
Let’s start with the bow. I don’t remember how many stitches I decided to cast on – probably around 10 or 12. I knitted until it was a good size, just over the width of my hand… probably? Knitting is an art not a science! I then knitted a small section, (cast about 4 stitches) until it was long enough to stitch around.
Next was the headband. I picked the ‘close check’ pattern. It goes like this…
- In multiples of 6 sts + 3
- 1st row: K3, *P3, K3; rep from * to end.
- 2nd row: P3, *K3, P3; rep from * to end.
- Rep the last 2 rows once more.
- 5th row: As 2nd row.
- 6th row: As 1st row.
- Rep the last 2 rows once more.
- Rep these 8 rows.
So long as you know how to knit and how to purl, it’s a really easy pattern to follow. Just make sure you know where you are in the 8 rows.
When I was finished I sewed up the ends and attached the bow. Easy enough to make!
