Well, it took a little while to get this post written which doesn’t seem like a good thing as my August challenge was to write everyday… but I did ok. It was made a little easier by the fact that I was travelling around Iceland most of the month. Writing everyday allowed me the time to sit down and remember what I had gotten up to. Thanks to the handy iPhone app, Day One, it was made easy. If you’re thinking about taking on this challenge I suggest downloading this app. You can keep track of your posts, be reminded to write, add pictures, weather for the day all that jazz.
This month’s challenge?
Walk 10,000 steps everyday.
There’s a theory that we should be walking 10,000 steps per day to maintain good health and reach proper activity levels. For me, I already know that walking really helps with my back/sciatica pain. I need to walk to keep the pain away.
My good friend Lara has been using a Fitbit pedometer for a while now and I took her recommendation. I purchased the Fitbit One and I’m glad I did. It clips onto your clothing and tracks your steps throughout the day. My device also tracks stairs, distance, calories and sleep. You can sign in online through the website or download the Fitbit app for your phone to track your progress.
While I tend to walk a lot I do have my lazy days. If I have a lazy weekend I start to feel it in my back so this challenge is to try and get me moving more.
The company I work for bought everyone who works here a Fitbit One, and we’re having a competition. To get the largest cash prize available, people need to walk 12,500 steps per day throughout the summer, on average. Since July 22, I’m at about 15,000 steps per day. 🙂 I’ve had a few lazy and sedentary rest days, but I live in one of the best places in America for hiking, so I’ve more than made up for them.
