What did I do in June?  Let’s see…

I’ve been taking my metal and glass course which I love love love! You can read more about it here. I just love imagining something and then attempting to create it and bring it into reality.

This is a necklace I made, its copper with glass enamel.

Adventures! Took a trip to Toronto Island with a fun group of people. We ended up walking around Centreville which meant I had  a lot of flashbacks to being 5 years old with my family. We also ended up at Toronto’s clothing optional beach, Hanlan’s Point, not a place connected to my childhood. Human bodies are interesting.

Anyways, look at this view! Oh baby. Gotta say, this was more pleasant to my eyes than the views at Hanlan’s Point.

I went to see Being Ginger at Bloor Hot Docs Cinema and got to see it for free just for being ginger myself. As they say, “red hair, don’t care.” Seriously, it was a pretty dang good documentary. I truly liked it, it wasn’t just because it was about redheads. The documentary took a good journey. Check out the trailer here.

Hey Ocean came to town and they were as amazing as ever (minus the fact that Dave didn’t have a voice). They are magic. You should give them a listen.

Now, generally I don’t celebrate my birthday. I like to get away, be by the water and just watch the waves if I can. But this year, I had some goofballs surprise me in the morning for my birthday. (They are the best kind of people I dare say.) Lovely day all round with lovely people.

The Icelandic Canadian Club of Toronto hosted the Snorri West program. Snorri West is a cultural exchange program where young Icelanders travel to North America and visit Icelandic communities. It’s similar to the Snorri program I did where North Americans of Icelandic background go to Iceland… but different. Anyways, Toronto hosted and I helped lead the charge in planning their visit. I was lucky to be able to tour these four, Signý, Anna, Hilmar and Kristján, around for a couple days. We spent time at the beach in Burlington, BBQ’d, explored Niagara Falls, took in a play at the Shaw Festival, explored World Pride, wandered the city, took in a Jays game and celebrated Icelandic National Day (a couple days late).

My neighbourhood was a party with World Pride! The first weekend was tame compared to the second. Boy oh boy. I could not only hear the music in my apartment, I could feel it. I wandered around a bit and caught some of the Dyke March and the Pride Parade. Unfortunately I didn’t take in any of the many talks that happened during the week, but it’s been making me think I should pick up some of my undergrad text books again.

I capped off the month by taking in some beautiful fireworks marking Canada Day Eve. (…  is that a city thing?) I love fireworks. Growing up I would run down to the dock and take in the fire works over the bay bridge. This was almost that same feeling except I was a lot closer and there were a lot more people around me. Boy did they dazzle.
